Illustration Friday prompt: confined
pencil illustration
I thought the Greek myth of Sisyphus portrays being "confined". The story of the tricky king Sisyphus who is condemned by the gods to roll a large boulder up a steep hill - only before he reaches the top the boulder would always roll down to the base of the hill again thus forcing him to be confined to the task for eternity...

Great concept, I have a hill like this at home which I walk down to get to the surf, I've been walking back up it since 1989, about four times a week.... now I know why :)
The poor guy looks lost forever with that darn rock. neat interpretation for this week's IF.
I had a job that felt like that rock once.
Andrew - ha...at least it is after having been at the surf ; )
Mary Jane...I know what you mean with regard to the job
Thanks for your visit! Love this, great interpretation of the theme. I've never heard of this myth before, but it reminded me of Altas - talk about confinement, wish I had time this week to do that one! Cheers, Susan
This is such a good interpretation of confined! I didn't know this myth either and it sheds some light on a dream I have sometimes i.e. never quite getting to the end of what I'm doing before having to start over..! Thanks your for visit to my blog too.
perfect story for the prompt! this is a great illustration!
What a great interpretation of this week's theme. I know the myth and I like your work, thanks for sharing.
Great take on "Confined"! love the story and your great style of rendering! Nice one!!
Poor Sisyphus! Confinement can be maddening. Great illustration!
Great drawing, I can really feel that weight! Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog :)
Oy for real! Poor guy. And with such a heavy rock...a great metaphor for what life feels like sometimes-personally, professionally, physically, mentally. As soon as you think your near the top, you're back at the bottom. But you gotta keep pluggin' eh?! Nice work!
And thanks for the nice comment : )
how interesting that poor sisy was in the wide outdoors, yet his confinement is concise. good concept and a nice job dt!
very good concept, indeed! Sisyphos is such an image of frustration and you've captured it well!
love the drawing, and what a great subject to choose! also, love your renewal entry.
At least he's got great muscles! :) Thanks for your visit. I enjoy this blog and your collection of art. Lots of appreciation from me to you!

Really an uphill task!!
A good topic, very relevant to this time period, great write
Wonderful interpretation of Them Thursday!
"Pushing a rock up a hill" is one of my favorite "business speak" terms to use at work. It's very fitting for a lot of what we work on, :)
yes, the gods punished sisyphus with a horrible and endless chore, but then again he was pretty horrible himself!
excellent sketch, and use of the prompt!
